The world of gastronomy has become a true passion for many in recent years. Whether it is for the general public looking for unique culinary experiences, or for investors interested in investing in prestigious restaurants, Michelin recognition remains an indisputable benchmark.

Michelin STARS are awarded by the prestigious Michelin Guide, an annual publication that evaluates and rates restaurants worldwide. These stars range from one to three, with three stars being the highest distinction an establishment can receive.

The process for obtaining a Michelin star is rigorous and highly confidential. The Michelin Guide inspectors, who evaluate restaurants anonymously, take into account five main criteria:

  1. Quality of ingredients used
  2. Mastery of culinary techniques
  3. The personality of the chef in his kitchen
  4. Value for money
  5. Consistency both over time and across the menu

Sixteen restaurants have been awarded a MICHELIN STAR.

Quintana Roo is famous for its paradisiacal beaches and attractive Caribbean climate. The region’s luxurious resorts offer visitors from all over the world a sophisticated cuisine, heir to the Mayan culture and enriched by cultural exchanges. Fresh herbs, citrus, chiles and achiote flavor specialties such as “cochinita pibil” (marinated pork slowly cooked in banana leaves).

Three restaurants in the region have been awarded a MICHELIN Star: Cocina de Autor Riviera Maya, Le Chique and HA’. In addition, thirteen other restaurants have been recognized with the “Silver Distinction”, which means that they offer excellent quality food and service.

Riviera Maya Signature Cuisine

Once inside the opulence of the Grand Velas resort, guests enjoy an immersive experience from start to finish, including live music, attentive service and, of course, singular cuisine. As the name implies, the cuisine here is driven by the creative vision of chef Nahúm Velasco, in the form of a sophisticated modern tasting menu that emphasizes new flavor combinations and compelling textures. A meal can progress from spider crab paired with silky jackfruit, to roasted pork with black garlic, artfully garnished with beet greens and butternut squash, and finish with honey textures from the property’s own Melipona hives. The menu changes regularly, so there’s always an element of surprise alongside the culinary artistry.

If you are not staying at the Xcaret Hotel, be sure to take the extra time to get to this restaurant, as it involves a bit of navigation. However, once you have found it, it will be a pleasure. The cuisine has a distinctly French bent, which is not surprising given chef Carlos Gaytán’s training, but it does not fail to make confident use of distinctly Mexican flavors and ingredients. It is a cuisine with a clear sense of identity and a solid technique, which stands out for its daring and creative combinations of flavors. Highlights include the mushroom beignet garnished with a cauliflower crisp in a creamy truffle and mint sauce, as well as the grilled filet mignon with crispy potato millefeuille and house-cured ikura garnish. Le Chique

Nestled in the Azul Beach Resort, Le Chique offers an enchanting experience in an elegant setting. The space, service and presentation are of high quality, with a distinctly theatrical feel that gives this place an air of special occasion. The tasting menu covers all regions of Mexico, showing a clear sense of style and personality, while impressing with creativity, excellent ingredients, technique and stunning flavors. The green passion fruit stuffed with foie gras parfait and vibrant maax ik or the marrow bone brulee with escamoles are just two of the first bites that get the meal off to a luxurious start. Next, seafood-based bites are presented with flourish, followed by heartier compositions. Finally, the sweets are as tempting as the first bite.

Bib Gourmand

In addition to the 3 stars awarded, Riviera Riviera Riviera Maya received 4 awards in the Bib Gourmand category, which rewards the best dining options at the most affordable prices for diners. The inspectors have sought to ensure that each selection has a main dish for less than $40 dollars and with exceptional quality.
